today's walk (Keswick rambling club Christmas lunch walk): Dodd

climbing up through Dodd forest with the flash illuminating raindrops

just after crossing the stream running down from Long Doors the rain is turning to snow

heading up on the other side of the stream

untrodden snow on the track leading to the northwest ridge of Dodd

looking back down this track

the start of the narrow track up the northwest ridge

looking back down the lower part of the ridge ..

.. and up to the upper section of the ridge

looking down the upper section

the rain has turned to wind driven snow up here

looking down from near the top

struggling up through deep snow

the last bit onto the summit

looking back down the northwest ridge

arriving on top of Dodd

crowded and very windy on top of Dodd

leaving Dodd summit

looking down on the flooded head of Bassenthwaite Lake

descending from Dodd

descent onto the forest road - now below the snowline

still raining as we cross the bridge at Mirehouse carpark
