today's walk: Gowbarrow Fell

looking back along the track from Dockray

the first glimpse of Ullswater

looking west over Dockray from higher up the hill

Ullswater from higher up the hill ..

.. and again from even higher

looking back along the ascent track as it flattens out higher up

approaching the summit through deep soft snow

the summit trig point with Little Mell Fell behind

looking east from just below the summit

the untrodden track down the south ridge

looking back up at the steepest bit - rather awkward in the deep snow

more deep snow further down the ridge

the path is clear but untrodden since the snowfall

looking back towards the summit

Ullswater comes into view as the snow thins

a streak of sunshine on Ullswater

quite abruptly below the snowline

looking back north towards the snow from the descent path

looking down from the bridge above Aira Force

Aira Force

looking down the river with Ullswater in the distance

the upper falls

Gowbarrow Fell from the road - my ascent was up to the right of the wall
