18th December 2012

a Lake District National Park volunteers work party removing ash saplings from a planting near Bassenthwaite village
... and later at Wolt Bridge near Troutbeck

Bassenthwaite church from our starting point

heading for the work site with Skiddaw and Ullock Pike ahead

looking east to some of the planting site

looking south over Chapel Beck to Skiddaw and Ullock Pike

looking west downstream to the mist in the Bassenthwaite valley

looking upstream with Skiddaw in the distance

a fire has been started to burn the ash

another shot downstream as more mist rolls in

these tubes have been taken off ash saplings and need disinfecting before being used on new trees

Ullock Pike - conditions are too good to work - I can't stop taking pictures!

Skiddaw and Ullock Pike from the site of the fire ..

.. and again from further downstream

zooming in on Skiddaw now clear of cloud

today's second site - Trout Beck from Wolt Bridge

Blencathra from the field near the site

starting a bonfire

Great Dodd and Clough Head as the fire gets going
