this morning's walk: Swinside

lambs in Portinscale

Grisedale Pike from the field path to Ullock

I set out to climb Barrow but noticing the conspicuous new tracks on Swinside I decided to investigate them

Skiddaw from the lane below Barrow

looking north along the lower track

the upper one finished amongst felled trees with Barrow behind ..

.. but I still had a southwards option leading to this view of Skiddaw

it ascended high onto Swinside and then dropped towards Newlands Valley

Braithwaite and Little Braithwaite from the track

a spur leftwards led to this view up Newlands Valley from just below the summit

turning further left we see Catbells, Maiden Moor, Dale Head and Hindscarth

a short rough climb took me to this viewpoint northwards to Braithwaite and Bassenthwaite Lake

Skiddaw from Swinside summit

Derwentwater from Swinside summit

the two trees on the summit have grown so much since my last visit that they now need a vertical shot

descending eastwards with Derwentwater below

at Nichol End Marina

the flag shows that there is still a strong cold wind

Skiddaw from Nichol End
