today's cycle ride: Castlerigg stone circle and the railway footpath

my new bike crossing the River Greta

I pushed her up the steep hill to the stone circle - here looking over the A66 to Blencathra

I had started early to avoid the heat so unusually I was on my own at the circle

looking over the sanctuary into the Vale of St John

looking to Clough Head and the Helvellyn ridge

zooming over some of the stones to Causey Pike

Latrigg and Skiddaw from the circle

Blencathra from the circle

Skiddaw and Lonscale Pike from the road towards Threlkeld

looking into the Vale of St John from the road

I joined the old railway track by this bridge at the Threlkeld end

the A66 crossing the River Glenderamackin which has very little water after the long dry spell

another old railway bridge ..

.. leading to this tunnel
