today's walk (Keswick rambling club): Nateby - Pendragon Castle - Lammerside Castle - Wharton Hall - Nateby

our starting point in the village of Nateby

heading out of Nateby

Wharton Hall from our outward route (closer pics on the way back)

limestone walls and an old limekiln

you might just make out the nine cairns on Nine Standards Rigg on this zoomed in shot

the Carlisle to Settle railway with Wild Boar Fell beyond

our tunnel under the railway with an awkward stile ..

.. on the other side an unusual concrete stile

looking east to Mallerstang Edge

a very hairy fell pony and its lively foal

looking north

the first view of Pendragon Castle from the road

a closer view from the road

no access to the castle ..

.. but since the gate opened easily we decided to ignore this restriction - steps built into the castle

looking north from the castle

Pendragon Castle from the south

heading north above the River Eden

Lammerside Castle seen over the River Eden

looking back down the River Eden to Mallerstang Edge
